Frequently Asked Questions about REIKI

What does a Reiki session look like?

It looks like a regular massage except that the client remains fully clothed on the table, and there is no massaging, kneading or any other intense motion. Instead, there are twelve hand positions used to amplify the energy in the recipient's body. These positions are grouped into three areas of the body: on the head, on the front torso, and on the back torso. While there are standard positions, practitioners will often adapt or add new ones depending on a patient's needs.

What does a Reiki treatment feel like?

No two treatments are the same. The Reiki experience varies somewhat from person to person, but feelings of deep relaxation are common. Many of my clients feel a wonderful glowing radiance flowing through and around them. Some people perceive the Reiki energy as heat, tingling, cold spots, and some clients report "seeing colors, or visions." Some clients don't perceive the energy at all, but the Reiki energy is still healing the body.

Reiki energy is healing, always, and facilitates the release of tension, anxiety, fear and other negative feelings, so a state of peace and well-being is often experienced.

Following a treatment you may feel slightly dehydrated and may need to rehydrate by drinking water, but you will truly feel relaxed, restored, and renewed.

What is the history of Reiki?

The most widely accepted history of Reiki holds that the question of how Christ healed the sick inspired a Japanese scholar of religion, Dr. Mikao Usui (1865 – 1926), to devote his life to searching for an answer. Finally, after many years of world travel and study, he found the secret, precious knowledge that had been lost: this “laying on of hands” method of healing was described in a language that is no longer spoken, on ancient parchment scrolls that had lain dormant for centuries, dusty and forgotten, on a shelf in a storage room of a Buddhist temple in Kyoto, Japan. Dr. Usui instantly began the overwhelming task of mastering the immense treasure he had found, and after a deep, spiritual, and soul searching journey to the top of Mount Kurayama, reintroduced this wonderful method of healing to the world. However; he only taught a tiny number of students this nearly magical art of healing, one of who instructed the teacher of my teacher, Amy Rowland. Here you can easily trace my lineage directly back to the original and natural source…
